# What is the difference between Business Calculus and Calculus?

The very basic and simple difference between Business Calculus and Calculus is Calculus focuses more on the theory and proofs and all the concepts of Calculus while Business Calculus mainly focuses on the application of the calculus in the field of business. For example in Business Calculus, they study the profit and the marginal profit and how they are related by using the concepts of Calculus. Although Business Calculus and Calculus are very similar to each other to understand the thorough difference between business calculus and calculus first we need to understand Business Calculus and Calculus.

**What is Calculus?**

Calculus is the mathematical study of continuous change of values that are related to a function. In Calculus, we basically study Limits and continuity, functions, derivatives, integrals, Differential equations, and infinite series. Calculus focuses more on the theory and proofs and all the concepts of the Calculus not only the application of the calculus.

**What is Business Calculus?**

In Business Calculus (sometimes also called “applied calculus” or “calculus for business and the social sciences” or “Calc 1”) we use limits, functions, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series for helping us in the business. For example to estimate the profit, lost and deal with margins and revenues and things of this nature.

**Main topics that are covered in both (business calculus and calculus).**

**Limits:**

Limits are all about approaching. The purpose of the limit of a function is to understand the behavior of a function as it approaches a certain value of. There are many techniques to determine the limit of the function. After studying both (Business Calculus and Calculus) you will be able to determine limits with different techniques.

**Derivatives:**

Derivatives are a very important and fundamental tool of Calculus. We can define derivative as it is the rate of change of a function. The slope of the tangent line to the curve measures the instantaneous rate of change of a curve (as shown in the diagram below).

In both types of Calculus (business calculus and calculus) you learn to determine the derivatives of different type of function with different techniques to solve these functions. Different types of functions are mentioned below.

- Linear
**Function**:_{}. - Exponential
**Function**:_{} - Square
**Function**:_{} - Cube
**Function**:_{} - Square Root
**Function**:_{} - Absolute Value
**Function**:_{} - Reciprocal
**Function**._{}

Different methods of finding derivatives are mentioned below.

- By
**Definition**also known as**First Principle**. **Chain**Rule**Product**Rule**Quotient**Rule**Derivative**of Trigonometric Functions**Derivative**of Exponential Functions.**Derivative**of Logarithms etc.

**Derivative applications:**

Application of derivative means to use the derivative to solve real-life problems and estimate things that help in our daily life like we can determine the maximum profit of a business through derivative (a natural application of derivatives in business calculus).

**Integration:**

Integration is used to find the area under the curve we can think of integration as the reverse of derivation. We can explain integration in simple words as integration is a way to add slices to find whole. As we can see below diagram we can determine the area under the curve by integrating function with the help of dx or we can think of dx as slice and after adding all slices of width dx we will get the whole area under the curve.

So if you are thinking to study business calculus or calculus you will be taught integration also and after completing both courses you will be able to determine integration of different function with the help different integration solving techniques.

Different methods of integration are mentioned below.

**Integration**by Substitution.**Integration**by Parts.**Integration**Using Trigonometric Identities.**Integration**of Some particular function.**Integration**by Partial Fraction

**Other Topics:**

It purely depends on the institute, instructor, and textbook which topics you cover other than the above-mentioned topics but other topics are taught including the above-mentioned topics. You may also study Applications of integration and a little bit about partial derivatives.

**Difference between business calculus and calculus.**

The basic difference between business calculus and calculus is we don’t use and study trigonometric functions like sine, cosine, and tangent in business calculus but in normal calculus, we use and study trigonometric functions as well, which are used in the proofs of calculus because calculus is based on these basic building blocks of geometry and on the angles, lengths, and how they related to each other. So in business calculus, we only focus on application of calculus while in normal calculus we study calculus in deep, learn all the proofs and building basic of calculus.

**Which one you should take business calculus or calculus?**

Which one is easy or which one you should choose depends on your interest and background of your education. If you have a great interest in mathematics and calculus and you want to study mathematics as a core then you should take normal calculus. But keep in mind that normal calculus is more difficult in the term of proofs and basics than business calculus. But it is not too difficult to catch up; it’s only difficult to as compare to business calculus.

And if you have an interest in business or you are doing your degree in business so should study business calculus you don’t need to study normal calculus because you only supposed to learn application of calculus in the field of business. Whatever courses you will take, you should give your hundred percent and always do hard work.
